Many locals remember field trips to Buford Dam, when students were invited inside to see the massive internal structure and generators.

Wanda Blan: “That was one thing the seventh graders looked forward to after that was getting to go on the field trip to the dam and touring it. And it was amazing, to go down through the dam. It’s a lot deeper than you think. It’s all underneath. [The generators] are huge.… They took us through it and let us see it.”
